CNG vehicle fuel makes big inroads in Argentina

Ride in a car here and chances are better than one in seven your trip will be powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The odds would have been far more remote just a few years ago. But Argentines in growing numbers have been converting their vehicles to CNG power, taking advantage of their country’s abundant natural-gas reserves and relatively low prices for CNG fuel. So many have made the switch, in fact, that according to the International Association for Natural Gas Vehicles, Argentina leads the world in converting vehicles to CNG. Currently, the country has 1.1 million natural-gas-powered cars, and more than 1,000 service stations in 18 of its 23 provinces offer CNG fill-ups. On average, 25,000 cars are being converted...
