Expert discusses climate-change mitigation in region

Eduardo Calvo

Since 1998, Eduardo Calvo of Peru has represented South America on Working Group III of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Working Group III addresses climate-change mitigation, the steps taken to reduce manmade contributions to global warming. Calvo, who earned a master’s degree in environmental sciences and a doctorate in economics, respectively, at present-day Slovakia’s Comenius University and Agricultural University, teaches courses on pollution and natural resources at the National University of San Marcos in Lima. He has worked with Peruvian waste-management and water-treatment companies and has advised Peru’s top environmental agency, the National Environment Council (Conam). Calvo is currently a consultant to Peru’s National Institute of Natural Resources (Inrena), where he focuses on environmental issues facing Peruvian agriculture.
