Company recognized for undertaking large-scale forest restoration

A private company behind Brazil’s largest-scale Atlantic Forest ecological restoration efforts has attracted global attention. The company, re.green, is known not only for reforesting degraded or destroyed woodlands, but for implementing management systems intended to combat the causes of forest degradation and thus safeguard the reconstituted ecosystems. Founded in 2021 by scientists specialized in forest restoration, re.green received world recognition as one of five winners of the Earthshot Prize 2025. The prize is awarded annually by Britain’s Prince William and biologist and natural historian David Attenborough to recognize environmental-protection achievements. Winners were presented a £1-million (US$1.37-million) grant at a November 2025 awards ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, with re.green winning in the category of “restoration and protection of nature.” re.green operates 13 projects on 37,000 hectares (91,427 acres) in two Brazilian biomes.
